It was a very cold night in Kansas and the wind was whipping though the trees.  Granny is sitting in the corner reading when Pa Pa comes into the house.  “It’s really getting cold out,” said Pa Pa as he walks toward the wood stove to put more wood on the fire. “Would you like some cocoa?” asked  Granny.  “Yes,”  said Pa Pa.  Granny goes into the kitchen to fix the cocoa.  Pa Pa comes in and they sit at the table drinking cocoa and eating some fresh baked cookies.

While Granny and Pa Pa were sitting at the table they heard a noise on the back porch.  “What was that noise?” said Granny.  “I don’t know,” said Pa Pa “but I will find out.”      Pa Pa goes to the door and looks out.  There was a little dog trying to get food out of the trash can.  “It’s a little dog,” said Pa Pa.  “A little dog, way out here,” said Granny.   Pa Pa lets the little dog in while Granny gets the little dog something to eat.  After the little dog ate he ran into the living room and laid down in front of the fire and went to sleep.

“Well, Pa Pa I think he has maded our home his home,” said Granny.  “I think you are right Granny, I think he has,” said Pa Pa.

Pa Pa and Granny tried to find the little lost dog’s home but no one came to claim him.  From that night on the little dog stayed with Pa Pa and Granny on Granny’s Acres and now follows Granny everywhere she goes.
